Grants

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest breast cancer organization, in 2011, awarded nearly $58 million in research grants to 56 institutions, adding to the nearly $610 million the organization has invested in research funding globally since 1982. The research funded includes: projects that seek to understand the underlying origins of breast cancer and why it has the capacity to spread throughout the body; research into early detection; and research into new treatments.  The grants slate moves Komen for the Cure closer to accomplishing its goal of investing another $2 billion in breast cancer research and community health programs by 2017.

Since 1995, the Northeastern New York (NENY) Komen Affiliate has granted nearly $2.4 million to local organizations in upstate New York. This year's grants, totaling more than $277,000 were awarded to thirteen organizations that are working locally to reach the needs of those impacted by breast cancer.

Seventy five percent of the net income raised by the NENY Affiliate through the Race for the Cure and other activities held throughout the year stays in the community to fund these programs in our 11-county service area.

The remaining twenty five percent of funds go to the Komen for the Cure Research Grant programs supporting research, awards, and educational and scientific programs around the world.

Any not-for-profit organization that provides breast health and/or breast cancer education, screening, or treatment services may apply for a grant.
