Albany County

American Cancer Society HopeClub–HopeClub on the Go-$30,000-Education-Expanding the "club without walls" in Albany County to African-American women in Schenectady and Rensselaer Counties to provide awareness, education and psychosocial support.  

CRAAB!-REAP the Benefits-$30,000-Education, Treatment-Integrated, holistic program offering physical and emotional support and education to breast cancer survivors. The program plans to expand awareness and support to Montgomery, Schenectady, Rensselaer, and rural Adirondack counties. 

Camp Bravehearts-Oncology Camp for Women-$30,000-Education-To enable women living with breast cancer an opportunity to share life experiences with others in similar circumstances through weekend retreats and one day programs. 

Hamilton County 

Creative Healing Connections-Adirondack Healing Retreats-$7,369-Education-Presentation of two retreats for rural women with breast cancer living in the North Country. 

Clinton County

Community Link Mobile Health-Women’s Health Screening-$25,000- Education, Screening- Mobile education, screening for women with no-insurance and/or low income in rural New York.

Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center-Addressing Survivorship Issues for Women-$20,701-Education-To increase access to appropriate support and services to address breast cancer survivors concerns with sexual issues by conducting education for health professionals and survivors.

Montgomery County

To Life!-Breast Health Awareness & Education in the Hispanic Community-$30,000-Education-Offering services to Hispanic women through a Breast Health Mentor who will educate and provide one on one support to women on breast health strategies in the County primarily at Centro Civico. 

Franklin County

Adirondack Medical Center-Breast Care Coordinator-$30,000-Education, Screening-Funding a Breast Cancer Care Coordinator at Adirondack Medical Center to improve mammography screening rates, coordination of care, and ensure access to services.   

Rensselaer County

Samaritan Hospital-One Women a Day-$30,000-Education, Screening- Intensive, community based educational outreach program to focus on breast health education to African-American women in Rensselaer County. The goal is to reach one woman each day through new partnerships with civic groups, work sites, community sites and a second health forum and fair.

Washington County

Glens Falls Hospital-Oncology Education and Support Services-$29,790-Education, Treatment-Expanding support services for survivors, including support groups, retreats, and oncology rehabilitation services related to lymphedema treatment, and exercise classes to Washington County.

Small grants for educational projects and scientific conferences were also reviewed throughout the past year and approved for funding by the Affiliate Board. Komen Northeastern New York awarded small grants to the following programs:

CRAAB!-Conference Grant-$5,000-To present seminars in the Capital Region on exercise and cancer risk reduction and improved quality of life for breast cancer survivors.

St. Peter’s Hospital-Education Grant-$2,800-Comprehensive breast cancer awareness and outreach program featuring one on one and small group educational sessions, health fairs, informational binders for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and coordination with the Cancer Services Program.

Schenectady Cancer Foundation-Education Grant-$4,000-To provide support, awareness and educational services to underserved women of Schenectady County.

Albany Medical College-Conference Grant-$3,200-Funding for a regional one day symposium entitled “New Frontier in Breast Cancer Research and Prevention” held at RPI with the goal of bringing together faculty, students, post-docs, technicians, industry professionals, advocacy groups, and health care professionals in the Capital Region who work on breast cancer research and treatment.
